Recall of Frozen Strawberries from Egypt Potentially Contaminated with Hepatitis A A large recall of frozen Egyptian strawberries that have been distributed widely in the United States, including California, has been issued due to the possibility of hepatitis A virus (HAV) contamination. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and state and local officials have been investigating an outbreak of HAV linked to frozen strawberries imported from Egypt. |

Ghiringhelli Specialty Foods, Inc. is recalling "Trader Giotto’s Caesar Salad with Chicken Breast" due to misbranding and undeclared allergens Ghiringhelli Specialty Foods, Inc., a Vallejo, California establishment is recalling "Trader Giotto’s Caesar Salad with Chicken Breast" due to misbranding and undeclared allergens – fish, soy, and wheat. The salads have the correct label on the top of the package, but exhibit an incorrect back label for "Trader Joe’s Chicken & Roast Beet Salad." |

CDPH Warns Consumers Not to Eat Bivalve Shellfish Caught in Humboldt or Del Norte Counties California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Director and State Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith today advised consumers not to eat recreationally harvested bivalve shellfish (mussels and clams) from Humboldt or Del Norte counties. Only the white meat (adductor muscle) of scallops should be consumed and the viscera (internal organs) should be discarded. |

Whole Foods Market Recalls Made-In-Store Items Prepared With Stone Fruit Voluntarily Recalled by Wawona Packing co. Due to Possible Health Risk. Whole Foods Market has recalled made-in-store items prepared with organic and conventional stone fruit, including peaches, nectarines, and plums from Wawona Packing Co. because of possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. While no illnesses have been reported to-date, Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. |

Leiter's Compounding Pharmacy: Recall - Concerns of Sterility Assurance Leiter's Compounding Pharmacy is voluntarily recalling 3 lots of its sterile products due to concerns of sterility assurance with Front Range Laboratories, Leiter's Compounding Pharmacy's independent testing laboratory. The following products are subject to the nationwide recall: Bevacizumab & Lidocaine/phenylephrine. The use of a non-sterile injectable product exposes patients to the risk of contracting serious life-threatening infections. Leiter's Compounding Pharmacy has not received any reports of adverse events or reports of contamination but decided to recall the products following a recent inspection by the FDA of Front Range Laboratories. These products were dispensed to health care providers between 8/05/13 to 9/02/13 nationwide throughout the United States. |

FDA announces nationwide voluntary recall of all products for sterile use from Specialty Compounding The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is alerting health care providers and patients of a voluntary nationwide recall of all products produced and distributed for sterile use by Specialty Compounding, LLC, Cedar Park, TX. There have been recent reports of bacterial bloodstream infections potentially related to the company's calcium gluconate infusions. All sterile use products produced and distributed by Specialty Compounding are being recalled and none of these products should be used by patients or administered to patients. Facilities, health care providers and patients who have received the products since May 9, 2013 should immediately discontinue use, quarantine the products, and return the products to Specialty Compounding. According to information provided by the firm, the recalled products were distributed directly to patients nationwide, with the exception of North Carolina. Recalled products were also distributed directly to hospitals and physicians’ offices in Texas. |

Banner Mountain Sprouts Voluntarily Recalls Organic Sprouts Because of Possible Health Risks As a precautionary measure, Banner Mountain Sprouts is voluntarily recalling organic sprouts under the following names:4oz. zesty greens, 5oz. sprout salad, 4oz. clover, 2lb. clover, 4oz. alfalfa/broccoli, 4oz. alfalfa sprouts, and 1lb. & 2lb. alfalfa sprouts because they may be contaminated with salmonella. Routine testing showed signs of salmonella and Banner Mountain Sprouts was notified of possible contamination. |

Update Regarding the Sourcing of Molluscan Shellfish from Korea Oysters, clams, mussels, and scallops from Korea should be removed from the market. On May 1, 2012, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) removed all Korean certified shippers of molluscan shellfish (oysters, clams, mussels, and scallops) from the Interstate Certified Shellfish Shippers List (ICSSL) following a comprehensive FDA evaluation that determined that the Korean Shellfish Sanitation Program (KSSP) no longer meets the sanitation controls spelled out under the National Shellfish Sanitation Program. |

Voluntarily Recalls World Berries™ Organic “Cacao Nibs” Because of Possible Health Risk FunFresh Foods of San Clemente, CA, in cooperation with the FDA, is voluntarily recalling a single lot of its 6 oz. packages of FunFresh Foods World Berries Organic “Cacao Nibs” because they may be contaminated with Escherichia coli 0157:H7 bacteria. E. coli 0157:H7 causes a diarrheal illness often with bloody stools. |

Walgreen Co. Voluntarily Recalls Certain Lots of 13 Oz. Chocolate-Covered Raisins As Product May Contain Peanuts, Almonds, Soy Due to Packaging Error Walgreen Co. is voluntarily recalling certain lots of 13-oz. Walgreen’s Chocolate-Covered Raisins because the packages may contain Walgreen’s Bridge Mix with peanut, almond and soy ingredients. The error occurred when Walgreen’s Bridge Mix was mistakenly packaged with the Walgreen’s Chocolate-Covered Raisin labeling. |
December 30, 2011 | Voluntary Recall of Limited Quantity of 6-pack 250 mL Martinelli’s Gold Medal Sparkling Cider As a precautionary measure, certain production lots of Martinelli’s Gold Medal® Sparkling Cider in six-pack shrink-bundled 250 mL glass bottles are being recalled in the Western United States due to the possibility of a defective seal that could break when opening the bottle. The six-pack shrink-bundled 250 mL Martinelli’s Gold Medal Sparkling Cider “Best By” dates being recalled are: 11 APR 2014 12 APR 2014 13 APR 2014 14 APR 2014 These production codes can be found on the front, lower corner of the bottle label under the words “BEST BY:” in a gold colored box. They are for case UPC 4124499932, six- pack UPC 4124446256, and single bottle UPC 4124400256. November 17, 2011 | CDPH Warns Consumers Not to Eat Certain Ready Pac Brand Romaine Lettuce California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is warning people not to consume bagged salad products from Ready Pac Food Inc. because of romaine lettuce possibly contaminated with E coli O157:H7. No illnesses have been associated with the recalled product. |
November 15, 2011 | Organic Pastures Raw Milk Recall Announced by CDFA All Organic Pastures raw dairy products with the exception of cheese aged a minimum of 60 days are to be pulled immediately from retail shelves and consumers are strongly urged to dispose of any products remaining in their refrigerators. |
February 7, 2011 | Recall Expanded for 'Nuclear Sludge' Candies Director of the California Department of Public Health Dr. Mark Horton is warning consumers to avoid all flavors of “Toxic Waste” brand “Nuclear Sludge” candies. The candies were found to contain high levels of lead, which is especially toxic to infants, young children and pregnant women. |
September 21, 2010 | Ginger Candy Recall Today, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) warned consumers not to eat Ginger Candy imported from China after tests conducted by CDPH found unacceptable levels of lead. Consumers in possession of the candy should discard it immediately. The candy with the brand name “Ginger Candy” contained as much as 0.25 parts per million of lead. Pregnant women and parents of children who may have consumed this candy should consult their physician or health care provider to determine if medical testing is needed. |
August 13, 2010 | Egg Recall Wright County Egg of Galt, Iowa is expanding its voluntary recall (initiated August 13, 2010) of specific dates of shell eggs produced by their farms because those eggs have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. |
